Pricing and the diagnostic visit
Flat $80 diagnostic, credited toward the repair when you approve the work.

01 The visit
What the diagnostic covers
The $80 covers the visit and the diagnosis, including pulling and reseating a built-in unit where that is what it takes to reach the fault. If you approve the repair, the $80 comes off the total. You get a written estimate — parts and labor itemised — before any part is ordered.

02 The book
What has a completed repair actually cost?
All 10 bands we publish, for every appliance type we work on. Each row is the span completed jobs of that kind have landed in — parts and labor together, after the diagnostic has been credited.
$80 Flat $80 diagnostic covering the visit and the full diagnostic sequence, credited toward the repair once you approve the work.
| Repair | Typical total |
|---|---|
| Door gasket or seal replacement | $230–$620 |
| Evaporator or condenser fan motor | $250–$580 |
| Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor | $240–$640 |
| Ice maker, water valve or supply line | $230–$630 |
| Igniter, spark module or surface element | $210–$530 |
| Oven thermostat or temperature sensor | $180–$570 |
| Convection fan or motor | $260–$720 |
| Dishwasher pump or control | $220–$710 |
| Electronic control board | $430–$1,060 |
| Compressor or sealed-system repair | $930–$2,490 |
When is it cheaper to replace it?
A comparable built-in refrigerator, appliance only — before delivery, installation, custom panels or cabinetry. Undercounter and wine units sit below this band; replacing a column pair is usually two purchases rather than one. Appliance pricing is national, unlike the labour above. A comparable unit runs $8,600–$19,400, which is the figure the repair band above has to be weighed against.
| Replacing instead | Range |
|---|---|
| Typical 36-42 inch built-in, the usual repair-or-replace comparison | $11,600–$16,800 |
| Custom panels and integrated cabinetry, on top of the appliance | $2,000–$5,000 |
| Replacement wine storage or an undercounter unit, appliance only | $3,500–$5,500 |
03 Reading the table
Why a range rather than a price?
A single number for a repair would be a guess. The same symptom on the same model is a sensor on one visit and a sealed system on the next, and the only honest way to tell the difference is to look at the machine.
So what is published is the span, not a quote. Where a job lands inside its band comes down to three things: which part actually failed, whether the appliance has to come out of the cabinetry to reach it, and whether the part is stock or ordered against the serial number. A seal or a sensor sits at the bottom of a band; sealed-system and control work sits at the top.
The firm figure is written down after the diagnosis, itemised, before a part is ordered. If you decline the repair you have paid for the visit and the diagnosis, and the written estimate is yours to take anywhere.
Whether the band is worth paying at all is a separate question, and it has its own page: repair or replace puts the table above beside what a comparable built-in costs to buy again and does the sum.
What happens after the repair is set out in full on the warranty page: 90 days on labor, 365 days on parts, and we fit genuine OEM parts rather than pattern equivalents.
Sealed-system work on a refrigerator or wine unit means handling refrigerant, which is federally regulated. Our technicians hold EPA Section 608 certification.

05 Questions
What do people ask about the money?
- Why publish a range instead of a price?
- Because a single number for a repair would be a guess and a range is something you can act on. The same symptom on the same cabinet is a sensor on one visit and a sealed system on the next. The bands above are what completed jobs have come to, parts and labor together; written estimate before any work begins.
- What is included in the diagnostic fee?
- The $80 covers the visit and the diagnosis, including pulling and reseating a built-in unit where that is what it takes to reach the fault. If you approve the repair, the $80 comes off the total. You get a written estimate — parts and labor itemised — before any part is ordered.
- At what point is replacing it the better buy?
- A comparable built-in refrigerator, appliance only — before delivery, installation, custom panels or cabinetry. Undercounter and wine units sit below this band; replacing a column pair is usually two purchases rather than one. Appliance pricing is national, unlike the labour above. Weigh the band the fault sits in against $8,600–$19,400 for a comparable appliance, and add $2,000–$5,000 if the panels and cabinetry have to be redone.
- When do I find out what the repair will actually cost?
- Before anything is ordered. Written estimate before any work begins. Parts and labor are itemised separately, and if you decline it you have paid $80 for the visit, the diagnosis and an estimate that is yours to take anywhere.
- Why does a part sometimes take a second visit?
- Parts for built-in and professional equipment are ordered against the serial number, not the model alone: the same model built two years apart does not always take the same component. Sealed-system parts, inverter boards and steam-generator assemblies are the ones that wait. Door hardware, gaskets, thermistors and fan motors usually do not.
- What happens if the same fault comes back?
- 90 days on labor, 365 days on parts, and we fit genuine OEM parts rather than pattern equivalents. Both clocks run from the date of the repair, so a part that fails inside its term is replaced rather than re-quoted.

The wall oven would preheat and then drop out halfway through a bake. He found a thermal cutout tripping early and a vent path blocked behind the cabinet. Two small things, one appointment, no drama about either.

Ours in Fruit Cove kept stopping partway with water still standing in the tub. He found a blocked drain hose behind the cabinet, cleared it, and checked the filter housing for cracks while the machine was out. Full cycles again.

The warming drawer stopped heating and its panel stayed dark. He found a broken harness where the drawer slides, repaired it properly with new connectors, and tested it through a full hold cycle before packing up.
